View from the Blue Ridge Mountains by Jerrod Laber

The fog hovers just below the point
where the blue peaks of the mountains connect
with the darkening blue of the evening sky.
Moisture cools the air. The blackness
of night prepares to descend from upon
the mountain tops and drown the valley.

Jerrod Laber is an Appalachian poet and writer. His work has been published in the Oxford Review of Books, Door is a Jar Magazine, Olney Magazine, and elsewhere. He lives in Virginia with his wife and their dog.
